Ah. Well after spending two weekends, I finally feel like the site is in a good place. We have areas to upload photos, forums and now blogs.  Took awhile to customize the Community Server software to get it to look and match the rest of the site, and I imagine I'll find stuff in the future that would look better.  Wasn't too bad though, and I have to thank whomever made the web developer toolbar for Firefox.  I probably shaved about another day's worth of work because of their CSS editor.  What a lifesaver.
